This report details crime statistics for Chelmsford’s Built-Up Area (BUA) for March 2023, covering a population of 113,362 residents. The total reported crimes for the month reached 870, resulting in a crime rate of 7.7 incidents per 1,000 people. This represents a notable increase compared to the UK average of 7.6 per 1,000. The most prevalent crime categories were violence and sexual offences (37.2% of total crimes), followed by vehicle crime (11.8%) and public order offences (8.3%). A significant rise in anti-social behaviour was also observed. The data highlights a concerning trend of escalating crime rates within the BUA, demanding further investigation and potentially adjusted preventative measures.
