Violence and sexual offences emerged as the dominant crime category in Rural Bath and North East Somerset during November 2025, accounting for 45% of all reported incidents. This figure, at 27 crimes, significantly outpaced other categories, reflecting the area’s unique crime profile. The overall crime rate of 3.6 per 1,000 residents placed the area 50.7% below the UK average, a marked contrast to the national figure of 7.3. This discrepancy may be partly explained by the area’s built-up nature within a rural setting, where community cohesion and lower population density likely contribute to crime prevention. Seasonal factors also played a role: Bonfire Night and Black Friday shopping may have driven spikes in certain categories, while shorter evenings and colder weather limited opportunities for public order offences. The UK average for violence and sexual offences (2.6 per 1,000) was 38% below the local rate, suggesting that local dynamics—whether social, economic, or geographic—create conditions that differ from the national norm. The area’s crime picture remains distinct, with property crimes accounting for 38% of total incidents but consistently below UK averages for most categories. This balance between violent crime and property crime reflects a unique combination of local characteristics, including the presence of both residential and commercial zones within the built-up area.
