Violence and sexual offences dominated the crime profile in Cheshunt during November 2023, accounting for 24.4% of all reported crimes. This category, which recorded 76 incidents, was 31% below the UK average of 2.6 per 1,000, suggesting a relatively lower prevalence of violent crime compared to the national picture. Anti-social behaviour followed closely, contributing 21.2% of total crimes.5 per 1,000 was 43% above the UK average, indicating a localised challenge that may stem from community dynamics or environmental factors. Other theft and shoplifting also featured prominently, with rates 77% and 100% above the UK average respectively, pointing to potential vulnerabilities in retail and commercial areas. The seasonal context of November, marked by Bonfire Night, Black Friday shopping, and extended evening darkness, likely influenced these patterns. For instance, the surge in shoplifting could be attributed to increased foot traffic and consumer activity during the post-Thanksgiving sales period. Meanwhile, the relatively lower rates of violent crime might reflect effective community policing or the area's demographic characteristics, such as a balanced mix of residential and commercial zones. These findings highlight the need for targeted strategies to address anti-social behaviour and shoplifting, while maintaining the positive trends in reducing violent crime. The overall crime rate of 7.2 per 1,000 for Cheshunt was 4% below the UK average of 7.5, a slight but notable edge that positions the area as marginally safer than the national benchmark.
