Princes Risborough recorded 50 crimes in May 2025, resulting in a crime rate of 5.8 per 1,000 residents—28.4% below the UK average of 8.1 per 1,000. This places the area among the safest in the UK, though the composition of crimes has shifted compared to previous months. Violence and sexual offences remain the most prevalent category, accounting for 38% of all reported crimes, followed by anti-social behaviour (26%) and shoplifting (12%). The seasonal transition into longer evenings and warmer weather may have contributed to the surge in violent and anti-social incidents, as outdoor socialising and alcohol consumption increase. The area's violent crime rate of 2.2 per 1,000 is 22% below the UK average, while property crimes—particularly shoplifting—remain in line with national trends. However, the sharp rise in anti-social behaviour (+116.7%) and violent offences (+111.1%) compared to April indicates a significant shift in local patterns. This may reflect the town’s character as a commuter town with a mix of residential and retail areas, where late-night activity and public spaces create conditions for such crimes. While the overall rate remains low, the increase in violent crimes deserves closer attention from residents and local authorities, particularly during the summer months when outdoor activity peaks.
