Ceredigion’s crime rate in April 2024 stood at 0.6 per 1,000 residents, placing it 92.2% below the UK average of 7.7 per 1,000. This figure, while showing a 124.0% increase from March, remains among the lowest in the country. Anti-social behaviour dominated the crime profile, accounting for 97.6% of all reported incidents, with 40 cases recorded. This category’s rate of 0.6 per 1,000 is 51% below the UK average for anti-social behaviour (1.2 per 1,000), highlighting a persistent gap between Ceredigion and national trends. Violence and sexual offences, though minimal, fell sharply from three to one incident, a rate 100% below the UK average. The seasonal context of April—marked by Easter celebrations, spring weather, and increased outdoor activity—may have influenced the rise in anti-social behaviour, potentially linked to community events or heightened social interactions in public spaces. However, the overall crime rate’s continued divergence from UK averages suggests that Ceredigion’s rural character, combined with effective policing or community engagement, plays a critical role in maintaining low crime levels. The absence of significant property crime further underscores the area’s unique profile, where anti-social behaviour and minor incidents dominate rather than more traditional categories like theft or burglary.
