Wilmslow’s August 2023 crime profile revealed a notable balance between property and violent crime, with the latter accounting for 39 incidents—just one more than the 34 property-related crimes recorded. This near-parity, however, does not overshadow the area’s overall crime rate of 3.9 per 1,000 residents, which remains 51.9% below the UK average of 8.1 per 1,000. The dominance of violence and sexual offences (39 cases) over other categories highlights a persistent challenge, though this type of crime is still 43% below the national average. Anti-social behaviour and public order offences, both significantly lower than UK rates, suggest a community where such disturbances are less frequent. Seasonal factors may have influenced these patterns: August, a peak holiday month, typically sees increased tourism and empty homes, which could partly explain the modest rise in burglary risks. However, the absence of major spikes in property crime—despite these conditions—points to effective local measures or community engagement that mitigate risks. The breakdown also shows a marked decline in shoplifting, from 13 incidents in July to six in August, a trend that may reflect heightened retail security or changing consumer behaviour during the summer. These findings underscore Wilmslow’s position as a relatively safe built-up area within Cheshire East, where crime prevention efforts appear to be yielding tangible results, even as local dynamics continue to shape the crime picture.
