For every 1,000 residents in Llandudno, 17.8 crimes were reported in May 2023—over 122% higher than the UK average of 8.0 per 1,000. This stark contrast underscores the area’s unique challenges, shaped by its coastal character and seasonal rhythms. Violence and sexual offences accounted for 35.7% of all crimes, with 96 incidents recorded, a rate 130% above the national average. Anti-social behaviour followed closely, contributing 29.4% of the total, at 291% above the UK figure. These patterns are consistent with Llandudno’s role as a tourist destination and seaside town, where public spaces and extended evenings in May—marked by bank holidays—may amplify social interactions and associated risks. Shoplifting, though down 50% from April, remained 206% above the UK average, likely tied to the town’s retail presence and high foot traffic. Meanwhile, vehicle crime and bicycle theft, while rising, remained below national rates, suggesting that the area’s compact, walkable layout and limited parking infrastructure may deter certain types of property crime. As May’s longer evenings and outdoor drinking culture take hold, the interplay between tourism, local demographics, and seasonal activity appears to drive the area’s crime profile, with violent and disorderly offences dominating over property-related crimes.
