April 2025 saw St Agnes report a crime rate of 3.2 per 1,000 residents, placing it 58.4% below the UK average of 7.7 per 1,000. The most prevalent crime types were violence and sexual offences (42.1% of total), followed by anti-social behaviour (31.6%) and criminal damage and arson (21.1%). This starkly contrasts with the UK average for violence and sexual offences (2.6 per 1,000), where St Agnes' rate is 46% lower. The seasonal context of April—marked by Easter and springtime outdoor activity—may partly explain the rise in anti-social behaviour, which often correlates with increased public gatherings. However, the sharp increase in criminal damage and arson (0.7 per 1,000) is 23% above the UK average for this category, suggesting local factors such as property vulnerability in a coastal built-up area. While the overall crime rate remains well below national levels, the shift in crime mix toward property-related offences (35% of total) compared to the UK’s 38% violent crime dominance highlights unique local dynamics. The area’s small population (5,929) and rural-urban hybrid character likely contribute to these patterns, with limited public spaces driving anti-social behaviour and seasonal tourism potentially influencing property crime trends.
