Deal’s built-up area within Dover recorded a crime rate of 6.4 per 1,000 residents in June 2023, placing it 24.7% below the UK average of 8.5 per 1,000. This lower-than-average rate reflects a combination of local factors, including the area’s coastal location and seasonal dynamics. Violence and sexual offences dominated the crime profile, accounting for 54.1% of all reported incidents (105 cases), with a rate of 3.5 per 1,000—20% above the UK average for this category. Anti-social behaviour followed at 16.5% (32 cases), with a rate of 1.1 per 1,000, 26% below the UK average. Public order offences (16 cases) also contributed to the mix, at 0.5 per 1,000—25% below the national rate. These patterns align with Deal’s role as a coastal commuter hub and its proximity to Dover, where summer tourism begins to draw visitors. The relatively low property crime rate (33 cases, 17.0% of total) and the absence of significant spikes in burglary or vehicle crime (both below UK averages) suggest that local policing and community initiatives may be contributing to this lower baseline. However, the elevated rate of violence and sexual offences remains a concern, potentially influenced by increased social activity during the summer months. Seasonal factors, such as longer daylight hours and the start of the tourist season, may partly explain the fluctuations in crime types observed in June.
