July 2024 presented a mixed picture for Deal’s crime profile, with the overall rate of 6.9 per 1,000 residents remaining 17.9% below the UK average of 8.4. Violence and sexual offences accounted for 36.1% of all crimes, followed by anti-social behaviour at 23.1% and criminal damage and arson at 10.6%. These figures reflect a pattern consistent with coastal areas during peak summer months, where tourism and extended daylight hours may influence crime dynamics. While the decline in violent crime compared to June suggests possible improvements in community engagement or policing, the sharp rise in vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour signals emerging challenges. The 140% increase in vehicle crime, though still below the UK average, may be linked to increased traffic during the summer season or changes in parking patterns. Anti-social behaviour’s 29.7% rise could be attributed to higher foot traffic in public spaces, a common trend in resort towns during July. Meanwhile, the drop in public order offences—53% below the UK average—suggests successful local initiatives in managing disorder. Residents should remain aware of these fluctuations, particularly as the summer season progresses and tourism activity peaks.
