July 2025 saw East Cambridgeshire maintain a crime rate of 4.6 per 1,000 residents, placing it 46.5% below the UK average of 8.6 per 1,000. This continued safety, however, masks specific escalations in certain crime categories that require attention. Violence and sexual offences remained the most prevalent crime type, accounting for 39.7% of all reported incidents (169 cases).8 per 1,000 is 41% below the UK average. Anti-social behaviour followed closely at 16.9% (72 cases), with a rate of 0.8 per 1,000 that is 48% below the national benchmark. The seasonal context of July—peak summer, schools out, and a surge in tourism—likely contributes to patterns seen in public order offences (0.3 per 1,000) and shoplifting (0.3 per 1,000). While the area's rural character and strong community policing may help suppress overall crime, the sharp increase in drug-related incidents (14 cases) compared to June warrants scrutiny. East Cambridgeshire's low crime rate is consistent with its status as a largely rural district with limited urban density, but the spike in drug-related crimes suggests emerging challenges that may require targeted interventions.
