June 2024 marked a continuation of Littleport’s historically low crime trajectory, with an overall rate of 5.3 per 1,000 residents—35.4% below the UK average of 8.2. This performance, while modest in absolute terms, reflects the area’s character as a relatively small, stable built-up area within East Cambridgeshire, where community cohesion and limited urban density may contribute to lower crime rates. The most prevalent category, violence and sexual offences (18 cases), accounted for 36% of all crimes.9 per 1,000 was 31% below the UK average. Anti-social behaviour followed closely with 14 incidents, a 55.6% increase from May, potentially linked to the start of summer and extended daylight hours encouraging outdoor activity. Shoplifting, at five cases, remained below UK levels, influenced by the area’s retail profile and seasonal footfall patterns. The seasonal context of June—marking the start of summer and longer days—may explain reduced burglary and criminal damage, as open spaces and increased visibility deter such crimes. However, the rise in 'other crime' and possession of weapons suggests areas for further scrutiny. While direct causes, the combination of geographic stability and seasonal rhythms likely plays a role in shaping these patterns.
