July 2024 marked a period of relative stability in East Hampshire's overall crime rate, which remained at 4.9 per 1,000 residents—41.7% below the UK average of 8.4 per 1,000. This sustained low rate, despite seasonal pressures, reflects the area's generally safe profile. Violence and sexual offences dominated the crime profile, accounting for 43.2% of all incidents, though their rate (2.1 per 1,000) was 26% below the UK average. Anti-social behaviour (10.0% of total crimes) and public order offences (9.8%) followed, both significantly underperforming national benchmarks by 66% and 22% respectively. The summer season, characterized by school holidays and tourism, likely contributed to fluctuations in certain crime types. While violent crime rates remained consistent with previous months, the seasonal context of July—peak outdoor activity, festivals, and events—may have influenced patterns in anti-social behaviour and property crimes. The district's overall safety, however, is underscored by its persistent underperformance relative to UK averages across most categories, suggesting robust policing or community initiatives. Nevertheless, the 21.4% increase in drug-related crimes and 20% rise in burglaries signal areas requiring targeted attention, possibly linked to transient populations or unseasonal factors. These trends, while not overwhelming, warrant monitoring in conjunction with broader summer patterns.
