October 2023 saw Coningsby and Tattershall record a crime rate of 6.1 per 1,000 residents, 23.8% below the UK average of 8.0. While the overall rate remains lower than the national figure, violent crimes—accounting for 45.7% of total incidents—surpassed the UK average for this category by 4%, with 21 cases reported. Anti-social behaviour, the second most common crime type, remained significantly below the UK average (38% lower), reflecting the area’s quieter, more tightly knit community. Seasonal factors may partly explain the rise in certain offences: darker evenings and Halloween activities could have contributed to increased anti-social behaviour and theft. However, property crimes, which make up 34.8% of the total (16 cases), were lower than the UK average for this category. The area’s small population and rural character likely contribute to its consistently lower crime rates compared to larger urban centres, though targeted awareness of rising shoplifting and drug-related incidents is essential. October’s transition to darker evenings may have also influenced patterns, with fewer daylight hours increasing opportunities for certain crimes.
