For a population of 145,183, East Lindsey recorded 1,200 crimes in June 2023, translating to 8.3 crimes per 1,000 residents—2.4% below the UK average of 8.5. This rate, while slightly lower than the national figure, reflects a combination of local factors, including the area’s rural character and seasonal dynamics. Violence and sexual offences accounted for 39.3% of all crimes, followed by anti-social behaviour (19.9%) and criminal damage and arson (8.1%). These figures align with patterns seen in areas with significant rural populations, where anti-social behaviour and property crimes often dominate. The start of summer, marked by longer days and the onset of tourism, may partly explain the rise in violent incidents, as increased foot traffic and social activity can heighten tensions. However, the data also shows that East Lindsey remains safer than the UK average in categories like drug offences (52% below) and vehicle crime (36% below), which may be attributed to the area’s lower population density and reduced urban pressures. The seasonal context further suggests that the crime profile is likely to shift again as the summer progresses, with potential increases in theft and public order offences linked to tourist activity.
