Anti-social behaviour emerged as the dominant crime category in Ewell during April 2023, accounting for 23.4% of all reported incidents. This category, which includes noise complaints, vandalism, and public disorder, reported 46 incidents—1.4 per 1,000 residents—significantly above the UK average of 1.2 per 1,000. The surge in anti-social behaviour may be attributed to the Easter holiday, which brought higher foot traffic and temporary population shifts to the area. Violence and sexual offences followed closely, with 45 incidents recorded (1.4 per 1,000), but this figure was 46% below the UK average. This discrepancy could reflect Ewell’s relatively stable community environment or effective local policing strategies. Vehicle crime, at 39 incidents (1.2 per 1,000), was 167% above the UK average, a stark contrast to the overall rate. This anomaly may be linked to Ewell’s commuter demographics, where parked vehicles are a common target. The seasonal context of April—characterised by Easter and the onset of spring—likely influenced these patterns, with outdoor activities and events contributing to higher anti-social behaviour and vehicle-related incidents. The overall crime rate of 6.1 per 1,000 residents placed Ewell 18.7% below the UK average, a figure that underscores the area’s generally lower crime profile despite the notable spikes in specific categories.
