In July 2024, Littlestone-on-Sea’s crime rate of 3.3 per 1,000 residents placed it 60.7% below the UK average of 8.4. This stark contrast highlights the area’s unique position within national crime trends, where a combination of geographic and demographic factors likely contributes to its low incidence of crime. The most significant category was violence and sexual offences, which accounted for 57.9% of all reported crimes. This figure, while higher than other categories, remains 33% below the UK average for the same category, suggesting local initiatives or community dynamics may play a role in mitigating more severe offences. Anti-social behaviour followed closely, making up 21.1% of total crimes, and was 52% below the UK average. The seasonal context of July—peak summer, school holidays, and tourism—may have influenced these patterns, with increased foot traffic in public spaces contributing to both higher violent incidents and lower property crimes. Property crimes such as burglary and criminal damage were significantly lower than the UK average, with burglary at 0.2 per 1,000 (35% below national figures) and criminal damage at 0.3 per 1,000 (52% below). This suggests that the area’s built-up character, including limited retail or commercial activity, may reduce opportunities for property-related crimes. The overall low crime rate, however, does not eliminate risk entirely. For residents, the 19 total crimes reported in July mean that one in every 305 residents experienced a crime over the course of the month, a statistic that, while low, underscores the need for continued awareness, particularly during peak summer events when public spaces are more crowded.
