August 2023 saw Waterlooville maintain a crime rate of 5.6 per 1,000 residents, 30.9% below the UK average of 8.1. This figure, while modest, reflects a consistent trend of lower-than-average crime in the built-up area within Havant. Violence and sexual offences remained the most prevalent category, contributing 39% of all reported crimes. This rate, however, was 17% below the UK average, suggesting either effective local interventions or demographic factors such as a more stable population. Anti-social behaviour followed closely, accounting for 23.6% of incidents, though this too was 10% below the UK average. The seasonal context of August—a peak holiday month—appears to have had a mixed impact. While increased tourism may have contributed to lower property crime rates (vehicle crime and burglary were 80% and 71% below the UK average, respectively), the rise in anti-social behaviour and possession of weapons could indicate challenges during summer months when community dynamics shift. The area's lower crime rates compared to national averages may be partly explained by its relatively small population and proximity to Havant, which could foster stronger community policing and local initiatives. However, the 76.9% increase in anti-social behaviour from July raises questions about whether temporary factors, such as school holidays or increased social activity, are influencing local crime patterns. These dynamics highlight the need for ongoing analysis to ensure that positive trends are sustained while addressing emerging concerns.
