Violence and sexual offences dominated the crime profile in Rural Havering in March 2024, accounting for 58.3% of the 12 total reported crimes. This category, at 2.3 per 1,000 residents, remains 14% below the UK average of 2.7 per 1,000. The overall crime rate of 4.0 per 1,000 for the area is 48.1% below the UK average of 7.7 per 1,000, a disparity that may reflect the built-up area’s lower population density and potentially reduced opportunities for certain crimes. Vehicle crime, though a smaller share (25% of total), rose sharply to 1.0 per 1,000—113% above the UK average of 0.5 per 1,000—linked to the area’s rural character and sparse public transport networks. Seasonal factors in March, such as the transition to spring and extended daylight hours, may have influenced crime patterns, with increased social activity contributing to a rise in anti-social behaviour and public order offences. The relatively low crime rate compared to national averages suggests that the area’s small-scale built-up nature, combined with effective local policing or community engagement, may be playing a role in maintaining lower levels of violence and property crime. However, the surge in vehicle-related incidents highlights a need for targeted measures to address this emerging trend.
