April 2023 presented a mixed picture for crime in Hadfield, a built-up area within the rural High Peak region. While the area’s overall crime rate of 5.3 per 1,000 residents remained 29.3% below the UK average, specific categories saw notable fluctuations. Violence and sexual offences dominated the crime profile, accounting for 40.5% of all reported incidents, with a rate of 2.2 per 1,000 that is 15% below the UK average. This may reflect the area’s relatively small population and limited nightlife compared to larger urban centres. Seasonal factors likely played a role, as the Easter holiday and warmer spring weather may have increased outdoor activity, contributing to the sharp rise in vehicle crime and other theft. These categories, which both surged by 400% compared to March, now account for 11.9% of total incidents each, a figure that exceeds the UK average for vehicle crime by 33%. Conversely, anti-social behaviour and burglary remain well below national levels, with rates 49% and 67% lower than the UK average respectively. This suggests that while certain areas of Hadfield face emerging challenges, the broader community continues to benefit from its low crime profile compared to the rest of the country.
