Anti-social behaviour dominated the crime profile in Rishton during June 2024, accounting for nearly half of all reported incidents. With 36 cases recorded, this category far exceeded the UK average by 286%, highlighting a significant local challenge. Violence and sexual offences followed, contributing 31.6% of the total crime rate, though this figure was 30% above the UK average. The overall crime rate of 11.4 per 1,000 residents was 39% higher than the UK average, a disparity that reflects the area’s unique socio-economic dynamics. As a built-up area within Hyndburn, Rishton’s proximity to larger urban centres and its relatively small population may contribute to higher visibility of certain crimes, such as anti-social behaviour, which often occurs in public spaces. The seasonal context of June—marking the beginning of summer—may have amplified social interactions, increasing opportunities for disorderly conduct. However, the data also reveals a reduction in violent crime compared to the previous month, linked to the conclusion of the academic term and reduced youth activity in public areas. These patterns suggest that while local initiatives targeting anti-social behaviour are critical, the broader community’s response to seasonal fluctuations in crime should also be considered.
