Milton Keynes recorded a crime rate of 9.0 per 1,000 residents in June 2024, placing it 9.8% above the UK average of 8.2 per 1,000. Violence and sexual offences dominated the crime profile, accounting for 38.9% of all reported incidents, followed by shoplifting (10.4%) and anti-social behaviour (10.0%). This pattern reflects the area's character as a planned urban district with a blend of residential, commercial, and educational hubs. The prominence of violent crime may partly explain the 27% gap above the UK average for this category, consistent with Milton Keynes' status as a major regional centre attracting diverse populations. Shoplifting rates—0.9 per 1,000—were 45% above the UK average, likely driven by the presence of large retail parks and supermarkets in the area. Anti-social behaviour, however, fell 36% below the UK average, possibly due to the town's emphasis on community policing and the relatively low density of alcohol-serving venues compared to other urban centres. Seasonal factors may have influenced the mix: with June marking the start of the summer season, the extended daylight hours and increased outdoor activity could contribute to both higher visibility of crimes and the potential for more opportunities for theft and disorder.
