June 2025 marked a mixed picture for crime in Olney, a built-up area within Milton Keynes. While the overall crime rate of 3.8 per 1,000 residents remained 53.1% below the UK average, several categories showed troubling upward trends. Violence and sexual offences accounted for 46.4% of all crimes, a significant share that, though still lower than the UK average of 2.9 per 1,000 (37% below), rose by 30% compared to the previous month. This increase may be consistent with the start of summer, when extended daylight hours and increased social activity could contribute to higher incidents. Anti-social behaviour, at 21.4% of total crimes, remained below the UK average, suggesting that community cohesion efforts may be effective in curbing such disturbances. However, the 200% surge in shoplifting—jumping from one to three incidents—raises concerns, tied to seasonal retail activity or vulnerabilities in local security measures. Vehicle crime also rose by 50%, a trend that may reflect increased vehicle traffic during the summer months. These shifts underscore the importance of vigilance in specific areas, particularly retail zones and parking areas, while the broader context of Olney’s continued safety relative to the UK highlights the effectiveness of local crime prevention strategies.
