Violence and sexual offences dominated the crime profile in Neath Port Talbot during June 2025, accounting for 38.9% of all reported crimes. With a total crime rate of 8.0 per 1,000 residents, the area recorded a 1.2% reduction compared to the UK average of 8.1 per 1,000, a slight but notable deviation. This overall rate, however, masks significant variations in specific crime categories. Violence and sexual offences, at 3.1 per 1,000, stood 8% above the UK average, suggesting a concentrated challenge in addressing violent crime. Anti-social behaviour followed closely, making up 19.7% of all incidents and 13% above the UK average, while public order offences surged 69% above the national benchmark. These patterns may be influenced by the area’s character as a post-industrial town with a mix of urban and rural elements, where social interactions in public spaces and community events could contribute to higher rates of anti-social and public order crimes. The seasonal context of June—marking the beginning of summer and the start of the tourism season—may also play a role, with increased foot traffic in retail and leisure areas amplifying incidents of shoplifting and public disorder. However, the lower-than-average rates for property crimes such as burglary (64% below the UK average) and vehicle crime (46% below) indicate that certain aspects of the local environment, such as community policing initiatives or economic factors, may be effective in deterring these types of offences. The relatively low levels of burglary and vehicle crime, combined with the higher rates of violent and anti-social crimes, suggest that the area’s crime profile is shaped by a combination of social dynamics and seasonal factors. As summer progresses, continued monitoring of these trends will be essential to inform targeted interventions and community safety strategies.
