Holbury's crime rate in November 2024 stood at 4.1 per 1,000 residents, marking a significant 46.1% reduction compared to the UK average of 7.6 per 1,000. This figure underscores the area's continued status as a relatively low-crime environment within the New Forest, a region characterised by its rural landscape and limited urban density. The most prevalent crime category was violence and sexual offences, accounting for 56.3% of all reported incidents — a rate of 2.3 per 1,000 residents, which is 11% below the UK average. This lower rate may be attributed to the area's smaller, tightly-knit communities, where social networks often act as informal deterrents to violent behaviour. The second and third most common crimes were public order offences and theft from the person, each contributing 9.4% of total incidents. These categories align with seasonal factors, as November's dark evenings and Bonfire Night events may have contributed to increased public order issues. Theft from the person, while still a small proportion of total crimes, saw a 100% month-on-month increase, linked to the timing of Black Friday shopping. Despite these fluctuations, the overall crime rate remains well below the UK average, reflecting the built-up area's integration within the broader rural context of the New Forest. The low levels of property crime — with burglary, vehicle crime, and criminal damage all below UK averages — further support this pattern, suggesting that the area's limited commercial activity and residential focus contribute to its comparatively safer profile.
