Violence and sexual offences dominated Weston-super-Mare's crime profile in July 2025, accounting for 43.2% of all reported crimes. This category, at 4.5 per 1,000 residents, was 48% above the UK average, reflecting the challenges of managing a coastal town during peak tourist season. The area's 10.4 crime rate per 1,000 residents—20.9% higher than the UK average—was driven by a combination of violent crime, anti-social behaviour, and public order offences. These patterns are consistent with the town's character as a major seaside resort, where summer festivals, crowded beaches, and transient populations create conditions conducive to such incidents. The high prevalence of anti-social behaviour (1.8 per 1,000) and public order offences (1.0 per 1,000) further illustrates the impact of seasonal tourism on local crime dynamics. While property crimes remained relatively low, the 392 violent offences reported highlight the need for continued focus on community safety strategies during the summer months. The seasonal context of July—characterised by school holidays, festivals, and extended daylight—likely contributes to increased social interactions and, consequently, higher reports of disorder and violence.
