Violence and sexual offences dominated the crime profile in North West Leicestershire during April 2023, accounting for 37.6% of all reported crimes. At 279 incidents, this category significantly outpaced other types, with a rate of 2.5 per 1,000 residents—4% below the UK average of 2.6 per 1,000. This dominance underscores the region’s ongoing challenges with personal safety, particularly during the Easter period when increased outdoor activity may contribute to heightened interpersonal conflict. The area’s overall crime rate of 6.6 per 1,000 residents was 12% below the UK average of 7.5, reflecting a relatively safer environment compared to the national picture. Seasonal factors likely played a role, as spring weather and holiday-related movement could have influenced patterns. Property crimes, while lower than violent offences, still accounted for 38.6% of the total (287 incidents), with vehicle crime (8.2%) and other theft (7.4%) emerging as notable subcategories. The relatively low rates for anti-social behaviour (58% below UK average) and bicycle theft (100% below) suggest effective local initiatives or environmental factors, such as reduced tourism or improved community engagement. However, the rise in criminal damage and arson (31% above UK average) highlights areas requiring further attention, linked to seasonal maintenance or property-related disputes.
