Violence and sexual offences dominated Brecon's crime profile in April 2025, accounting for 42.4% of all reported crimes — a stark contrast to the UK average of 2.6 per 1,000. With 25 incidents, this category drove the area's overall crime rate to 9.1 per 1,000, 18.2% above the UK average of 7.7. The prominence of violence aligns with Brecon's status as a market town with a mix of historical sites and retail areas, where late-night activity and seasonal events may contribute to heightened tensions. Anti-social behaviour followed closely, making up 18.6% of crimes (11 cases), 28% above the UK average. This spike, combined with a 200% increase in other thefts (from 2 to 6 cases), suggests a combination of factors. Spring weather and the Easter period, which typically bring more foot traffic and social gatherings, may have amplified these trends. Other thefts, at 80% above the UK average, could be linked to increased outdoor activity and unsecured property in the built-up area. Meanwhile, criminal damage and arson rose to 10.2% of incidents, a 58% increase over the UK average, reflecting the town's heritage buildings and seasonal maintenance demands. These patterns underscore the need for targeted measures to address both violent crime and property-related offences in a rapidly changing local context.
