June 2024 presented a mixed crime picture for Treherbert, with the overall rate of 6.1 per 1,000 residents placing the area 25.6% below the UK average. Despite this, the data reveals a combination of trends, particularly in violent and public order crimes. Violence and sexual offences accounted for nearly half (45.7%) of all reported incidents, a figure that, while down 36.0% from May, remains 1% above the UK average. This category's prevalence may be linked to the area's character as a built-up community within Rhondda Cynon Taf, where social dynamics and localised tensions could contribute to such incidents. Public order offences also rose to five cases, 48% above the UK average, reflecting the start of the summer season and increased outdoor activity. Meanwhile, burglary, though lower than the UK average (133% below), accounted for 11.4% of total crimes, suggesting that targeted property crime remains a concern. Seasonal factors may play a role, as June marks the beginning of longer evenings and the potential for increased foot traffic in public spaces. However, the overall downward trend in crime, particularly in anti-social behaviour and vehicle crime, indicates that local efforts or environmental factors may be having a mitigating effect. These patterns underscore the importance of ongoing community engagement and policing strategies tailored to the specific needs of Treherbert.
