In July 2024, Rowley Regis recorded 270 crimes across a population of 37,484 residents, translating to a crime rate of 7.2 per 1,000 people—14.3% below the UK average of 8.4. This rate, while stable compared to June, reflects a combination of local factors and seasonal influences. The most common crime category was violence and sexual offences, which accounted for 46.7% of all incidents, a figure significantly higher than the UK average for this category (2.9 per 1,000). This may be partly explained by the area’s built-up nature and the presence of public spaces that attract crowds during summer festivals and events. Vehicle crime, at 12.6% of total crimes, was also elevated, 96% above the UK average, potentially linked to increased traffic and vehicle-related activity during the tourist season. Anti-social behaviour, however, was 59% below the UK average, suggesting effective community policing or environmental design that deters such incidents. The seasonal context of July—peak summer, school holidays, and festivals—likely contributed to shifts in crime patterns, with more outdoor activity creating opportunities for certain offences while also enabling community engagement that may reduce others. The data highlights a mixed picture: while some categories remain above the UK average, the overall rate remains relatively low, indicating that local factors are balancing national trends.
