Slough’s overall crime rate in June 2023 stood at 9.2 per 1,000 residents, placing it 8.2% above the UK average of 8.5 per 1,000. This figure reflects a combination of local factors, including the town’s role as a commuter hub and its proximity to London, which may contribute to higher levels of certain crimes. The most prevalent category was violence and sexual offences, accounting for 37.9% of all reported crimes (587 incidents), with a rate of 3.5 per 1,000—20% above the UK average. This could be partly explained by increased social interactions during the summer months, when longer daylight hours and warmer weather encourage more public activity. Anti-social behaviour followed closely, making up 11.4% of incidents (176 cases).1 per 1,000 is 26% below the UK average, due to effective community policing in key areas. Public order offences, at 0.9 per 1,000, were 34% above the UK average, linked to the town’s retail and leisure sectors attracting larger crowds. Seasonal patterns also appear to influence trends, with June marking the beginning of the summer season, which may drive up certain types of crime, such as those related to public spaces and alcohol consumption. However, the overall stability in crime rates compared to the previous month suggests that local initiatives and environmental factors are playing a role in moderating the trajectory.
