Hilton (South Derbyshire) recorded a crime rate of 4.4 per 1,000 residents in October 2024, a figure that remains 45.7% below the UK average of 8.1 per 1,000. This sustained safety record is notable, particularly given the seasonal context of shorter daylight hours and Halloween, which typically correlate with increased criminal activity. Violent crimes, however, emerged as a growing concern, accounting for 51.4% of all reported incidents—19 cases in total. This contrasts with the UK average for violence and sexual offences, which stands at 2.7 per 1,000, a 14% gap that suggests Hilton’s residents may experience a lower risk of such crimes. Property crimes, while present, were markedly lower than the UK average, with only six incidents reported. This could reflect the area’s smaller, built-up nature, where community cohesion and limited commercial activity may act as deterrents. Anti-social behaviour and public order offences also showed a mixed picture: while anti-social behaviour was 53% below the UK average, public order incidents rose slightly, due to increased foot traffic during October. The seasonal context—clocks going back and darker evenings—may have influenced both violent and property crime trends. Residents should remain cautious, particularly around weekends and holidays, as these periods often see spikes in alcohol-related incidents and thefts.
