Violence and sexual offences dominate Kingsbridge’s crime profile in April 2025, accounting for nearly 29% of all reported crimes. At 9.4 crimes per 1,000 residents, the area’s overall crime rate is 22.1% above the UK average of 7.7 per 1,000. This spike is driven by an 112.5% increase in violence and sexual offences compared to March, with 17 incidents recorded—more than double the previous month’s count. The seasonal context of Easter and spring weather may contribute to heightened outdoor activity, potentially increasing opportunities for conflict in public spaces. Criminal damage and arson also rose sharply, with 11 cases reported, 216% above the UK average. Anti-social behaviour, though lower than the UK rate, remains a persistent concern, reflecting patterns seen in similar small towns where community tensions can escalate during holidays. The area’s crime profile contrasts with the UK average in several categories, particularly in violence and property-related offences, suggesting local factors such as the town’s mix of residential and commercial areas may amplify certain types of crime. While shoplifting declined by 33.3%, other theft surged 300%, indicating shifting criminal priorities that may relate to seasonal retail activity or changes in enforcement focus.
