March 2024 saw South Holland's crime rate reach 5.8 per 1,000 residents, a figure 24.7% below the UK average of 7.7 per 1,000. This marked a notable deviation from the usual seasonal patterns, with violent crime dominating the landscape. Violence and sexual offences accounted for 42.6% of all reported crimes, significantly higher than the next most common category, anti-social behaviour (16.2%). The area’s crime profile contrasts sharply with national trends, with property crimes making up just 28% of the total (161 incidents) compared to 39% of UK crimes. This divergence may reflect the area’s lower population density and reduced retail activity compared to major urban centres. Seasonal factors likely played a role, as the transition to spring and longer evenings could have influenced both violent crime patterns and the resurgence of outdoor activities. Criminal damage and arson rose by 65.4% compared to February, linked to increased public access to rural and semi-rural spaces. The data illustrates a combination of local geography, seasonal rhythms, and community dynamics that shape crime trends in South Holland.
