Violence and sexual offences emerged as the dominant category in South Ribble's crime profile during February 2025, accounting for 32.5% of all reported crimes. This category alone recorded 216 incidents, translating to a rate of 1.9 per 1,000 residents—19% below the UK average of 2.4 per 1,000. The prominence of violent crime contrasts with the UK-wide trend, where violence typically constitutes a smaller share of total offences. Anti-social behaviour followed closely, making up 30.8% of all crimes.8 per 1,000 was 86% above the UK average of 1.0 per 1,000. This divergence suggests that local social dynamics, such as community cohesion or policing strategies, may be influencing these figures. The seasonal context of February—a winter month marked by reduced outdoor activity and a pre-spring lull—likely contributes to the overall lower crime rate compared to other periods. While property crimes accounted for 24.5% of total offences (168 incidents), they remained below the UK average for shoplifting and vehicle crime. The relatively low rate of violent crime in South Ribble compared to the UK may reflect a combination of community initiatives, effective policing, or the area's character as a mix of rural and suburban environments where public spaces are more monitored. However, the elevated rate of anti-social behaviour indicates areas for targeted intervention, particularly in high-traffic or densely populated neighbourhoods.
