November 2025 saw an unexpected spike in public order offences, which rose by 200% compared to October, despite an overall crime rate of 3.7 per 1,000 — 49.3% below the UK average of 7.3 per 1,000. This sharp increase in public order crimes, which now account for 7.3% of total incidents, contrasts with steep declines in shoplifting (-83.3%) and other theft (-66.7%). The area’s crime profile remains heavily skewed toward violence and sexual offences, which made up 51.2% of all reported crimes, followed by anti-social behaviour (24.4%). Seasonal factors likely contributed to these patterns, as November’s dark evenings and Bonfire Night events may have amplified tensions in public spaces, while Black Friday shopping activity could have temporarily reduced shoplifting opportunities. Violence and sexual offences in Wroughton (1.9 per 1,000) are 26% below the UK average, a reflection of the area’s relatively low population density and strong community policing presence. Anti-social behaviour, at 0.9 per 1,000, is also significantly below the UK average, suggesting effective local initiatives to manage nuisance crimes. The overall crime rate, however, remains lower than the national average, with property crimes (4 total) representing just 9.8% of all incidents — a stark contrast to the UK’s property crime dominance. This divergence underscores Wroughton’s unique character as a built-up area within Swindon, where urban planning and community engagement may play a role in keeping crime rates subdued despite seasonal pressures.
