In June 2025, Telford’s crime rate of 9.0 per 1,000 residents placed it 11.1% above the UK average, with violent crimes dominating the landscape. Violence and sexual offences accounted for 38.5% of all reported incidents, a stark contrast to property crimes, which made up 27.3% of the total. This imbalance may be influenced by the start of summer, a period when increased foot traffic, social gatherings, and tourism could contribute to higher levels of interpersonal conflict. Anti-social behaviour followed closely, at 17.9% of the total, reflecting ongoing challenges in community cohesion. Shoplifting, though lower than previous months, remained 43% above the UK average, due to the presence of retail hubs in the built-up area. The seasonal context of June—as the longest day of the year begins and tourism starts to ramp up—may also explain the elevated rates of violence and anti-social behaviour. However, a direct link to these factors, and other local dynamics, such as demographic shifts or changes in policing strategies, could also play a role. The prominence of violent crimes over property crimes suggests a need for targeted interventions focused on addressing underlying social tensions and ensuring public safety during peak summer activity.
