November 2025 marked a mixed picture for Margate’s crime profile, with some areas of improvement and persistent challenges. The overall crime rate stood at 9.4 per 1,000 residents, placing the built-up area 28.8% above the UK average of 7.3. This disparity underscores Margate’s distinct profile as a coastal town with a history of higher-than-average anti-social behaviour and violent crime. The most prevalent offences were violence and sexual offences (41.5% of total crimes), followed by anti-social behaviour (19.5%) and other theft (7.2%). These patterns are consistent with Margate’s character as a tourist destination and commuter hub, where high foot traffic and transient populations contribute to specific crime risks. Seasonal factors likely played a role in shaping the month’s data: the approach of Bonfire Night may have influenced spikes in public order offences, while the post-Black Friday lull in retail activity could explain the drop in shoplifting. However, the continued elevation of violent crime—3.9 per 1,000 compared to the UK average of 2.6—suggests deeper issues that may require targeted interventions. The area’s anti-social behaviour rate, 70% above the UK average, further highlights the need for community-focused policing strategies. These findings illustrate the combination of local demographics, seasonal rhythms, and long-term crime trends in a coastal built-up area.
