Violence and sexual offences dominated Torfaen’s crime profile in June 2025, accounting for 38.5% of all reported incidents. At 10.4 crimes per 1,000 residents, Torfaen’s rate was 28.4% higher than the UK average, a stark contrast to the national trend of 8.1 per 1,000. This elevated rate is consistent with the area’s status as a mixed urban-rural district, where higher concentrations of social services, public housing, and community centres may intersect with challenges in maintaining public order. Anti-social behaviour, which contributed 19.8% of all crimes, was 48% above the UK average, suggesting persistent issues with noise disturbances, vandalism, or disruptive conduct in local neighbourhoods. The seasonal context of June—marking the start of summer and longer daylight hours—may have intensified social interactions in public spaces, contributing to the rise in violent and anti-social incidents. While property crimes (258 total) were lower than violent crimes, the 90% increase in criminal damage and arson compared to the UK average highlights vulnerabilities in infrastructure or community engagement. These patterns underscore the need for targeted strategies to address both immediate safety concerns and systemic factors driving crime in Torfaen.
