Violence and sexual offences dominated Dinas Powis’ crime profile in April 2023, accounting for 32.4% of all reported crimes. This category, with 11 incidents, remained 50% below the UK average of 2.6 per 1,000 residents, a reflection of the area’s generally low crime environment. The second most common category was public order offences, at 8 incidents (23.5% of total crimes), which stood 56% above the UK average of 0.6 per 1,000. This discrepancy may be linked to the built-up nature of the area, where community interactions and public spaces could contribute to such incidents. Anti-social behaviour, though less frequent than violence, saw a dramatic 250% increase from March, influenced by the Easter holiday period and increased outdoor activity typical of spring. The overall crime rate of 4.1 per 1,000 residents placed Dinas Powis 45.3% below the UK average, a trend consistent with its status as a small, low-density area within the Vale of Glamorgan. Seasonal factors, such as the transition into warmer weather and the Easter holidays, likely played a role in shaping these patterns, with increased foot traffic and social gatherings contributing to public order and anti-social behaviour incidents. However, property crimes remained minimal, with only 7 incidents (20.6% of total crimes) and other thefts, vehicle crime, and criminal damage all significantly below UK averages. This suggests that while the area faces challenges in managing certain types of crime, its overall safety profile remains markedly better than the national average.
