November 2024 saw Little Eriswell record a crime rate of 1.3 per 1,000 residents, a figure 82.9% below the UK average of 7.6 per 1,000. This marked a 34% increase from October’s rate of 0.9 per 1,000, yet the area remains one of the safest in the UK. The most common crime category was violence and sexual offences, accounting for 50% of all reported incidents (4 cases), followed by other crime (25%, 2 cases) and anti-social behaviour (12.5%, 1 case). These figures contrast sharply with UK averages, where violence and sexual offences occur at 2.6 per 1,000 (77% below Little Eriswell’s rate) and anti-social behaviour at 1.1 per 1,000 (82% below). Seasonal factors may partly explain the spikes in violence, with Bonfire Night and Black Friday shopping likely contributing to increased activity in public spaces. The low overall rate suggests a tightly knit community with strong local policing, though the seasonal context highlights the need for vigilance during peak activity periods. The area’s rural character, combined with its status as a built-up area within West Suffolk, may create a unique balance between community cohesion and limited commercial activity, reducing opportunities for certain crimes.
