Violence and sexual offences emerged as the dominant crime category in Wrexham during May 2025, accounting for 39.3% of all reported crimes. At 3.2 per 1,000 residents, this rate is 13% above the UK average of 2.8 per 1,000, a discrepancy that may reflect the area’s demographic composition and social dynamics. The presence of a major university and vibrant town centre likely contributes to higher levels of interpersonal conflict and alcohol-related incidents, particularly as May’s longer evenings and bank holidays extended outdoor activity hours. Anti-social behaviour followed closely, with 1.5 per 1,000 residents (19.3% of total crimes), also above the UK average of 1.4 per 1,000. These figures suggest that public spaces, such as the High Street and sports facilities, remain focal points for disorder. Shoplifting, at 0.8 per 1,000 (10.0% of total crimes), was 19% above the UK average, likely driven by the area’s retail presence and foot traffic. This pattern is consistent with other urban centres where high streets and shopping centres experience seasonal spikes in property-related crimes. The overall crime rate of 8.0 per 1,000 residents placed Wrexham 1.2% below the UK average of 8.1 per 1,000, a narrow margin that highlights the area’s relative safety despite the dominance of violent and anti-social crimes.
