March 2024 saw Evesham's overall crime rate reach 8.8 per 1,000 residents, placing it 14.3% above the UK average of 7.7. While the figure remains higher than the national benchmark, the area experienced notable reductions in specific categories. Anti-social behaviour, which had been a persistent concern, decreased by 25% compared to February, aligning with the start of spring and longer evenings potentially shifting community activity patterns. Similarly, drug-related offences fell by 50%, though this may reflect seasonal trends rather than systemic changes. The most significant category by volume was violence and sexual offences, accounting for 24.4% of all crimes, with a rate of 2.2 per 1,000 — 18% below the UK average. This suggests localised factors, such as the built-up area's proximity to Wychavon's rural surroundings, may contribute to lower rates in this category. Shoplifting, however, emerged as a stark outlier, with 43 incidents recorded — 146% above the UK average of 0.6 per 1,000. The high street's retail presence, combined with the transition to spring increasing foot traffic, likely plays a role in this spike. Public order offences also rose sharply, 67% above the UK average, linked to the easing of winter restrictions and more outdoor activity. These patterns illustrate the combination of seasonal dynamics and local geography in shaping crime profiles, even as broader trends like anti-social behaviour decline.
