Violence and sexual offences dominated the crime profile in Wychavon during October 2023, accounting for 31.6% of all reported crimes. This category alone contributed 271 incidents, with a rate of 2.0 per 1,000 residents, 26% below the UK average for the same category. The overall crime rate for the area stood at 6.2 per 1,000 residents, placing Wychavon 22.5% below the UK average of 8.0 per 1,000. This relative safety, however, is not uniform across all categories: burglary, for instance, saw a rate of 0.5 per 1,000, 47% above the UK average, while anti-social behaviour remained significantly lower, at 0.9 per 1,000 (30% below national figures). The seasonal context of October, with its shorter days and Halloween celebrations, likely played a role in shaping these patterns. The rise in violent crime could be connected to increased social interactions during evenings. Conversely, the decline in theft from the person by 66.7% may reflect heightened awareness or changes in local activity levels. These findings underscore the need to balance targeted interventions with broader community engagement to address the dual challenges of rising burglary and managing violent crime.
