Pershore’s crime rate in September 2024 stood at 9.5 per 1,000, placing the built-up area 23.4% above the UK average of 7.7 per 1,000. This figure, while lower than August’s 11.7 per 1,000, remains a cause for concern given the area’s relatively small population of 8,398. The most common crimes were shoplifting (30% of all incidents), violence and sexual offences (23.8%), and anti-social behaviour (17.5%). Shoplifting, in particular, far outpaced the UK average by 326%, likely driven by the return of university students and the start of the academic term. Violence and sexual offences, though lower than the UK average (12% below), remain a significant concern, with 19 cases reported. Anti-social behaviour, meanwhile, was 45% above the UK average, pointing to ongoing challenges in managing public conduct. Seasonal factors in September—such as the transition back to school and university, coupled with shorter evenings—may contribute to increased retail activity and, consequently, shoplifting. However, the drop in vehicle crime (75% decrease) and public order offences (40% decrease) suggests some seasonal stability as community routines settle into place. These patterns highlight the need for targeted policing in retail and high-traffic areas, while also emphasizing the importance of community engagement to address anti-social behaviour and prevent escalations in violent crime.
