Missing Visitors? How to Fix 2N Delayed Notifications
A 2N IP Intercom is a premium solution for managing access to your property, but its effectiveness is compromised if notifications arrive late. When a visitor presses the call button, you expect an instant alert on your mobile device via the My2N app. A delay of even a few seconds can be the difference between answering the call and finding a "Sorry we missed you" note.
This guide provides a structured approach to diagnosing and resolving the frustrating issue of delayed 2N notifications, ensuring you receive alerts in real-time.
Step 1: Check Your Smartphone's Settings
The most common culprit for delayed push notifications is your own smartphone's power-saving features. Modern mobile operating systems (iOS and Android) aggressively manage background apps to conserve battery life, which can interfere with real-time services like My2N.
For Android Users:
- Go to Settings > Apps and find the My2N app.
- Tap on Battery or Battery Saver.
- Set the app's battery usage to Unrestricted or No restrictions. This prevents the operating system from putting the app to sleep.
- Also, check Mobile data & Wi-Fi and ensure that Background data is enabled.
For iPhone Users:
- Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh.
- Find My2N in the list and make sure the toggle is switched ON.
- Also, ensure your phone is not in Low Power Mode, as this can delay push notifications.
Step 2: Analyse Your Network Connection
Notification delivery is entirely dependent on a stable, low-latency internet connection at both ends: the intercom and your mobile device.
At the Intercom:
- Wired is Better: For maximum reliability, your 2N intercom should be connected to your router using a physical Ethernet cable. Wi-Fi connections are more susceptible to interference and latency.
- Reboot Your Network: A simple reboot of your router and the 2N intercom can often clear up temporary network congestion or glitches that cause delays.
- Check Bandwidth: Ensure your internet connection has sufficient upload speed. Video intercoms require a stable upstream connection to send the video feed to the cloud.
On Your Mobile Device:
- Strong Signal: Whether you are on Wi-Fi or cellular data (4G/5G), a weak signal will cause delays. Try moving closer to your Wi-Fi router or to an area with better cellular reception.
- Switch Connections: If your Wi-Fi is slow or congested, temporarily disable it on your phone and use cellular data to see if notifications arrive faster. This can help you isolate the problem to your local Wi-Fi network.
Step 3: Update Firmware and App
Running outdated software can lead to compatibility and performance issues.
- Update the My2N App: Go to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and check for any updates to the My2N app.
- Update the 2N Intercom Firmware:
- Access your 2N intercom's administration web interface from a computer on the same network.
- Navigate to the System > Maintenance section.
- Check the currently installed firmware version against the latest version available on the 2N website.
- Follow the instructions to upload and install the latest firmware file if yours is out of date.
Step 4: Verify My2N Service Status
While rare, there can sometimes be issues with the My2N cloud service itself. You can check the official 2N System Status page online to see if there are any ongoing outages or maintenance periods that could be affecting notification delivery.
By systematically working through these steps, you can identify and fix the bottleneck causing your 2N notifications to be delayed. A well-configured device on a healthy network will deliver the instant alerts you need to effectively manage your property access.
