How to Troubleshoot and Fix Aiphone Video Freezing
Aiphone intercom systems are renowned for their quality and reliability, but a freezing or lagging video feed can undermine their core function. When the video stops, you can't properly see who is at your door, which can be both a security risk and a major inconvenience. Typically, video performance issues are rooted in network problems rather than a fault with the Aiphone hardware itself.
This guide will walk you through the steps to diagnose and resolve the common causes of video freezing on your Aiphone video intercom system.
1. Evaluate Your Network Connection Type
The stability of your network is the single most important factor for smooth video. Aiphone systems can use either a wired Ethernet connection or Wi-Fi, and the choice has a significant impact on performance.
- Wired Ethernet (Recommended): A direct, wired connection from your Aiphone station to your network router is the gold standard for reliability. It is not susceptible to the interference and signal fluctuations that affect Wi-Fi. If your system supports it and you are experiencing freezes, switching to a wired connection is the most effective fix.
- Wi-Fi Connection: While convenient, Wi-Fi is less stable. A weak signal is the most common cause of video freezing. Use a Wi-Fi analyser app on your phone next to the Aiphone unit to check the signal strength. If it's low, the connection will be unreliable.
2. Check for Network Congestion and Bandwidth Issues
Your Aiphone system needs a certain amount of dedicated bandwidth to stream video smoothly. If other devices are using up all the available bandwidth on your network, the video feed will suffer.
- Identify High-Bandwidth Activities: Are other people in your home or office streaming 4K movies, engaging in online gaming, or downloading very large files?
- Test for Congestion: Try to temporarily pause these high-bandwidth activities. If the Aiphone video stream immediately becomes smooth, you have identified a network congestion problem.
- Solution: Consider upgrading your internet plan for more bandwidth or implementing Quality of Service (QoS) settings in your router. QoS allows you to prioritise network traffic for specific devices, ensuring your Aiphone system always has the bandwidth it needs.
3. Power Cycle All Related Equipment
A simple restart can often resolve temporary software glitches or network hiccups.
- Power Down: Turn off or unplug your Aiphone master station, the door station, and your network router and any switches.
- Wait: Leave all devices powered off for at least 60 seconds.
- Power Up Sequentially:
- First, plug in and turn on your router. Wait for it to fully restart.
- Next, power on any network switches.
- Finally, power on your Aiphone master station and door station.
- Test: Check the video feed to see if the issue is resolved.
4. Update Aiphone Firmware
Manufacturers release firmware updates to fix known bugs and improve device performance. An outdated firmware version could be the source of your video freezing problem.
- Check Your Version: Find the current firmware version in your Aiphone system's settings menu.
- Visit the Aiphone Website: Go to the official Aiphone support website and look for the product page for your specific model number.
- Download and Install: If a newer firmware version is available, download it and follow the manufacturer's detailed instructions for installation. Crucially, do not interrupt the power during a firmware update.
By systematically working through these steps, you can identify the bottleneck causing your video to freeze and restore the smooth, reliable performance you expect from your Aiphone intercom system.
