Has Your Annke Camera Suddenly Stopped Working? Here’s a Fix-It Guide.
An Annke security camera that suddenly stops working can leave a critical blind spot in your property's surveillance. Whether the camera is completely dead, showing as 'offline', or providing a distorted video feed, the issue needs to be resolved quickly. Don't worry, many common problems can be fixed with some basic troubleshooting.
This guide will take you through a logical sequence of steps to diagnose and fix your non-working Annke camera.
## Step 1: Investigate Power Issues
The most fundamental requirement for your camera is a stable power source. No power means no camera, so this is always the first place to look.
### For Wired (DC Power) Cameras:
- Check the Outlet: Plug another device (like a lamp) into the same power outlet to confirm it's working.
- Inspect the Power Adapter: Ensure the power adapter is securely plugged into the outlet and the power cable is firmly connected to the camera's power port.
- Test the Adapter: Power adapters can fail. If you have another identical Annke camera, try using its power adapter on the non-working camera. If it powers up, you've found your culprit and simply need a new adapter.
### For Power over Ethernet (PoE) Cameras:
- Check the Switch Port: Look at the Ethernet port on your PoE switch or NVR that the camera is connected to. Are the link/activity lights flashing? If not, there may be no power or data connection.
- Test the Port: Try plugging the camera into a different PoE port on the switch that you know is working.
- Inspect the Ethernet Cable: A damaged or poorly terminated Ethernet cable can fail to deliver power and data. Try a different, known-good cable.
## Step 2: Troubleshoot Network Connectivity
If your camera has power (e.g., you can see its indicator lights are on) but it's showing as 'Offline' in the Annke Vision app or on your NVR, the problem lies with its network connection.
### 1. Reboot Everything
A simple reboot can often clear up temporary network glitches.
- Power cycle the camera: Unplug the camera from its power source (or disconnect the Ethernet cable for PoE), wait one minute, and then plug it back in.
- Reboot your router: Unplug your main internet router, wait a minute, and restart it. Give it 5-10 minutes to fully come back online.
- Reboot your NVR/DVR: If you are using a recorder, restart it as well.
### 2. Check Physical Connections
- Ethernet Cable: Ensure the Ethernet cable is clicked securely into place at both ends. Sometimes a cable can be partially dislodged without falling out completely.
### 3. Verify IP Address
- IP Conflicts: An IP address conflict (two devices with the same address) on your network can knock your camera offline.
- DHCP Issues: Your router might have assigned a new IP address to your camera that your NVR doesn't know about. Try using a network scanning tool to find the camera's new IP address and update it in your NVR's settings.
## Step 3: Address Video Feed Problems
If the camera is online but the image is black, distorted, or blurry, the issue could be environmental or a hardware fault.
- Check for Obstructions: Is something blocking the lens?
- Clean the Lens: The lens cover can get dirty or covered in condensation. Wipe it gently with a clean, soft microfibre cloth.
- Night Vision Issues: If the picture is fine during the day but black at night, check if the small infrared (IR) LEDs around the lens are glowing with a faint red light in the dark. If they are not lit, the camera's IR board has likely failed.
- Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the camera (usually via a small, recessed button). Warning: This will erase all your custom settings. After the reset, you will need to set up the camera again from scratch.
If after all these steps your camera is still not working, it is likely you are dealing with an internal hardware failure, and the unit may need to be replaced.
