What to Do When Your Annke Security Device Won't Reset
Resetting a security camera or DVR/NVR is a crucial troubleshooting step for resolving a wide range of issues, from forgotten passwords to persistent software bugs. However, it can be very frustrating when your Annke device doesn't respond to a reset attempt. Whether you're using a physical reset button or trying to restore factory settings through the software menu, a failed reset can leave you feeling stuck. This guide will provide you with clear instructions and alternative methods to successfully reset your Annke security device.
When Is a Reset Necessary?
Before proceeding, it's important to know why a reset is performed. A factory reset will revert all settings to their original state. This is useful when:
- You have forgotten the administrator password and are locked out.
- The device is experiencing performance issues, such as freezing or crashing.
- You are selling the device or moving it to a new network.
- Key features, like motion detection or remote viewing, are not working correctly.
Important: A factory reset will not erase the recordings on your hard drive (for DVRs/NVRs) or microSD card (for cameras). It only resets the configuration settings.
Method 1: The Physical Reset Button (For Most Annke Cameras)
Most Annke IP cameras are equipped with a physical reset button. Its location can vary, so you may need to inspect your camera closely.
- Location: It's often a small, recessed hole on the back or bottom of the camera, or sometimes near the SD card slot. You might need to remove a small cover to access it.
- The Process:
- Ensure the camera is powered on. It's crucial that the device has power during the reset process.
- Use a paperclip, SIM ejector tool, or a similar thin object to press and hold the reset button.
- Hold the button down firmly for 15-20 seconds. This is the most common point of failure; a quick press will not work.
- Listen for an audible cue, such as a click or a chime, or watch for the camera's indicator lights to flash or change colour. This indicates a successful reset.
- Release the button. The camera will then reboot, which may take a minute or two. Once it's back online, it will have its factory default settings.
Method 2: Resetting via the Software Interface (If You Can Log In)
If you can still access your device's settings, this is the easiest way to perform a reset.
For Annke DVRs/NVRs:
- Connect a monitor and a USB mouse to your DVR/NVR.
- Log in with your administrator account.
- Navigate to the main menu. The path is typically: Configuration > Maintenance > Default.
- You may see several options. Choose "Restore Defaults" or "Factory Defaults" to completely reset the device.
- The system will ask for confirmation. Confirm the action, and the DVR/NVR will reboot.
For Annke IP Cameras (via App or Web):
- Open the Annke Vision app on your phone.
- Select your camera and go to its "Settings" page.
- Scroll down to find an option like "Device Configuration" or "Maintenance".
- Look for a button labelled "Restore" or "Restore to Factory Settings".
- Confirm the action. The camera will restart with its default settings.
What to Do If the Reset Fails
If you've followed the steps above and the device still hasn't reset, here are some troubleshooting tips:
- Check the Power Supply: Ensure the device is connected to a stable power source. A faulty power adapter can cause unexpected behaviour.
- Hold the Button Longer: Try holding the physical reset button for a longer period, up to 30 seconds, to ensure the command registers.
- Power Cycle and Try Again: Unplug the Annke device from power. Wait for one minute to allow it to fully discharge. Plug it back in, let it boot up completely, and then attempt the reset procedure again. This can clear temporary glitches.
- Contact Annke Support: If you have tried all the above steps and your device still won't reset, there may be a more serious hardware issue. It's time to reach out to Annke's official support team for further assistance. Provide them with your device's model number and the steps you've already taken.
