Solving Anran Camera Wi-Fi Disconnection Issues
An Anran security camera provides a great sense of security, but only when it stays connected. If your camera frequently disconnects from the Wi-Fi network, it can't send you alerts or record crucial footage. This guide will walk you through the most common reasons for Wi-Fi disconnection and provide clear, easy-to-follow solutions to create a stable and reliable connection.
Step 1: Check the Foundations - Power and Signal
Before adjusting any settings, it's crucial to confirm the basics are in order.
-
Verify the Power Supply:
- Ensure you are using the power adapter that came with your Anran camera. Using a phone charger or a different adapter may not provide enough stable power, leading to random reboots and disconnections.
- Check that the power cable is securely plugged into both the camera and the wall outlet. If you are using an extension cord, try plugging the camera directly into the wall to rule out a faulty cord.
-
Analyse Your Wi-Fi Signal Strength:
- The most common cause of disconnection is a weak Wi-Fi signal. The farther your camera is from your router, the weaker the signal will be.
- The Smartphone Test: Take your smartphone and stand right beside your Anran camera. Check the Wi-Fi signal strength on your phone. If it's only one or two bars, the signal is too weak for the camera to maintain a stable video stream.
- Identify Obstructions: Wi-Fi signals are blocked by thick walls (especially concrete and brick), metal siding, and large household appliances. Each wall the signal has to pass through significantly reduces its strength.
Step 2: Optimise Your Wi-Fi Network
If the signal seems weak, or if the camera disconnects even with a strong signal, you may need to adjust your network.
- Reboot Your Router: Just like a computer, your router can benefit from a restart. Unplug it from power for 60 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait for all the lights to become stable (which can take a few minutes) before checking if the camera reconnects.
- Minimise Interference: Many devices use the 2.4GHz frequency, which can cause congestion. Try to keep your camera and router away from other wireless devices like cordless phones, baby monitors, and microwave ovens.
- Connect to the 2.4GHz Network: Anran cameras, like most smart devices, are designed to work on the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band, not the 5GHz band. The 2.4GHz band has a longer range. If your router uses the same name for both bands, your camera might be trying to connect to the wrong one. Log in to your router settings and consider giving the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks different names (e.g., "MyHomeWiFi_2.4" and "MyHomeWiFi_5") to ensure you connect the camera to the correct one.
Step 3: Camera-Specific Solutions
If your network is optimised and the problem persists, focus on the camera itself.
- Update Firmware: Check within the Anran app for any available firmware updates for your camera. Manufacturers release these updates to fix bugs and improve performance, including Wi-Fi stability.
- Remove and Re-add the Camera: Sometimes the connection profile stored in the app can become corrupted.
- Open the Anran app and delete or remove the problematic camera from your device list.
- Perform a factory reset on the camera. There is usually a small, recessed reset button that you need to press and hold with a paperclip for about 15 seconds until the camera gives an audio or visual confirmation.
- Go through the setup process again from the beginning, carefully re-entering your Wi-Fi password.
By systematically working through these steps, from checking the power supply to resetting the device, you can identify the cause of the disconnections and get your Anran camera back online for good.
